Postgraduate Student Travel Awards

These awards are designed to reward achievement, promote international dissemination of the students’ research results and assist students in finding excellent postdoctoral positions.

Applications will be reviewed by the Higher Degrees Committee in order to provide the Director with a ranked list of recommendations.

Value Up to five scholarships in each round of up to $1,500 each per annum.

Eligibility All postgraduate (Research Masters or PhD) students for whom QIMR is the principal host institution will be eligible to apply. Applicants will be expected to have:

Assessment Awards will be recommended based on merit, with particular emphasis on the quality and productivity of the applicant’s research during candidature, and on the likely benefits of the proposed travel. Preference will be given to attend international meetings.

Application Two rounds of applications will be considered each year, with deadlines of May 30 and November 30 at the June and December meetings of the Higher Degrees Committee, respectively.
Applications should be submitted to the Education Coordinator by the due date preferably as a .pdf file and should include:
  1. full curriculum vitae, including details of tertiary education and professional employment history, list of publications (indicating the students’ contribution to each), list of seminar and conference presentations, and any special achievements, awards and prizes
  2. copy of abstract and evidence of submission to a relevant conference (with evidence of abstract acceptance to be provided as soon as it is available
  3. evidence of application for travel support for the proposed trip from outside QIMR
  4. proposed travel itinerary and budget and summary of likely benefits of the trip
  5. letter of support from the Principal Supervisor
  6. Cover Letter from the applicant

Applicants will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible after the relevant Higher Degrees Committee meeting.
NB: Travel awards must be taken up and claimed for, before the end of the fiscal year
