Entrance Qualifications & Stipends

Doctor of Philosophy
The minimum criteria for acceptance as a PhD candidate are those of the enrolling University. In general, admission is granted on the basis of a Bachelor degree with Honours Class I, a Masters degree, or equivalent.

QIMR expects that full time PhD students will be supported by external competitive scholarships for three years at a minimum APA rate and must include a thesis allowance equivalent to that provided by an APA.

Master of Philosophy
Entrance qualifications for acceptance as a Masters candidate are those of the enrolling University and should not be lower than BSc Honours 2A or equivalent for study at QIMR.

MPhil stipend should be the equivalent to the current APA rate for PhDs for 1.5 years and include a thesis allowance equivalent to that provided by an APA. Maintenance requirements should also be equivalent to those required for PhD students.

Students who have started a MPhil degree at QIMR and wish to convert to PhD must apply to the QIMR HDC, during their first year review in the first instance.

Bachelor of Science(Hons)
Students must be accepted into a BSc(Hons) programme at their enrolling university. No formal stipend is required for an Honours student, but Awards may be provided.
