Studying at QIMR
The QIMR student body is a diverse group involved in a wide range of research endeavours and includes Australian and international students.
QIMR is closely affiliated through formal agreements or collaborative research with all the universities and teaching hospitals in Brisbane, and with a number of other institutions within and outside Australia. Its strongest links are with the University of Queensland through joint research programs in tropical health, experimental oncology, liver disease, transplantation biology and experimental haematology. It is also a major partner in the CRC for Aboriginal & Tropical Health.
The Institute comprises roughly 800 people. Of these, approximately 70 are senior scientific staff leading research teams, 100 are postdoctoral scientists, 140 are BSc (Honours) and postgraduate research students, 260 are research assistants and other scientific staff, and the remainder are visiting scientists, management and support staff. Scientists and students come from diverse backgrounds in science, medicine and veterinary science.
QIMR is housed in the Bancroft Centre and the Clive Berghofer Research Centre,
in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital complex and adjacent to the Royal
Children's Hospital on Herston Road, Herston, about 2 km from the centre of Brisbane.
Because of its close proximity to these major teaching hospitals and the University
of Queensland Medical School, the Institute is ideally placed for clinical research
collaborations and serves as a centre for research seminars, symposia and teaching
courses of interest throughout the Herston campus.
