Spotlight on Indigenous Health at QIMR

Spotlighting Careers in Indigenous Health and Science

This is a collaborative Indigenous Science Education project conducted in partnership with Education Queensland. The Arthur Earle Youth Foundation Ltd is the major sponsor for the project.

The aims of the project are to:

Spotlight students The Spotlighting Careers in Indigenous Health and Science Program is aimed at encouraging Indigenous high school students (years 10 and 11) from remote and rural areas of Queensland to become more interested in science and health, and in the long term, to pursue a career in science, research and / or health.

The program is conducted over four or five days in Brisbane. Some of the activities included in the program are:

  • Hands on experience in QIMR laboratories
  • Visits to local universities to gather information about different health and science courses, requirements for entry and support programs for those who study at university
  • Visits to hospital sites and community health centres
  • Participation in seminars about Indigenous health
  • Workshops with CSIRO
  • Cultural activities including visiting the Sciencecentre at Southbank
