Cancer Mouse Models

The use of model systems in which to study human disease processes has gained new relevance with the development genetically modified animals. Transgenic mice, where a gene expression construct is added to the genome, and knockout mice, which have an endogenous gene deleted or mutated, have become invaluable resources in cancer research. These genetically modified mice are used to help us understand the function of genes that are involved in the initiation and spread of cancer.
