Grace has a strong instrumentation background. She came to QIMR from her position as the Flow Cytometry Facility Manager at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute in Melbourne. She also worked in clinical neurophysiology at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and also in the Neurosurgical Unit at The Maudsley Hospital and Institute of Psychiatry in London. Grace is active with the Australasian Flow Cytometry Group (AFCG) in organising courses and meetings and currently holds the position as AFCG President. Grace is an elected Councillor on the Active International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC). She has been on the Technical Advisory, Bio Hazard Sorting and Core Managers Groups and chair of the Meeting Evaluation Committee for ISAC.

Paula Hall
Senior Flow Cytometry Analyst
PaulaH@qimr.edu.au

Paula has worked at QIMR in the Flow Cytometry and Imaging Facility since 1996. She graduated from the University of Queensland with a BSc in Microbiology. Paula first worked as a Research Assistant in the Microbiology Department at UQ and published several papers on sugar cane disease. For the next 20years she gained valuable experience working in both research and diagnostic hospital pathology laboratories in Australia and the UK.With her past and current experience Paula is able to maximise the capability of the complex scientific instrumentation in the facility for the benefit of QIMR staff to assist them to attain their goals. Paula is a member of the AFCG (Treasurer 2009).

Justin Ross
Senior Microscopist
E  JustinR@qimr.edu.au

Justin recently moved back to Brisbane after working at the University of Hawaii where he applied numerous fluorescence techniques to study protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions in vitro and in cells. While at UH he conducted research into dynamin and other proteins associated with receptor mediated endocytosis and the botulinim neurotoxin. His interests revolve around fluorescence instrumentation and the application of fluorescence and microscopy techniques to biological problems. He has also instructed at several international workshops on basic and advanced fluorescence techniques.
Justin completed his PhD in Biophysics and Biophotonics at QIMR and The Centre for Biophotonics and Laser Science, UQ in 2006.

Haran Sivakumaran
Research Officer

E  HaranS@qimr.edu.au

Haran moved from Perth to start his PhD at QIMR's HIV Molecular Virology Lab in 2004. He investigated the trafficking of HIV proteins within cells, extensively using confocal microscopy in his research. Haran continues his trafficking studies in the HIV lab as a Research Officer. In addition to the confocal system, Haran is experienced in using the Olympus IX81 live cell imaging platform currently available in the Imaging Facility. He started working for the Flow Cytometry and Imaging Facility in a casual capacity in mid-2010 and is available to assist QIMR researchers with their microscopy requirements.

Graeme Chapman
Research Assistant
E GraemeCh@qimr.edu.au

Graeme obtained his PhD in Biochemistry in 1973, from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta GA, USA. As manager of the flow cytometry laboratory in the Immunology Department at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney from 1981 to 1988, he obtained extensive experience in research and clinical flow cytometry. From 1988 to 2006 Graeme worked for Coulter Electronics (10 years) and BD (7 years) as a Flow Cytometry Specialist, involved in training flow cytometry operators, flow cytometry customer applications and technical support. He retired from full time work in December 2006 and now works part time in the flow cytometry laboratory at QIMR.
