QIMR has focuses on three major areas:

 Our research makes a real difference to the health of people throughout the world. Our researchers have:

  • Identified genes that double the risk of acquiring melanoma.
  • Found that schizophrenia is caused by thousands of genetic variations common to both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
  • Reduced dengue fever by over 98% in two rural areas of Vietnam using a biological control.
  • Developed a treatment that uses the body's own defence system to fight cancer.
