In Australia, there were 190,000 cases of dementia in 2006 (Source: AIWH, 2007).
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, estimated to be responsible for 70 percent of dementia cases (Source: AIWH, 2004).
With the world’s ageing population, the prevalence of dementia is set to increase four-fold in the next 40 years. By 2050, 1.13 million Australians will be affected (Source: Access Economics Report, 2005).
