Prostate cancer

Prostate cancer will affect 1 in 5 Australian men. Nearly 20,000 cases and 3,000 deaths are reported each year (equal to the number of women who die from breast cancer annually). Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men and is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in men (Source: AIHW).

Our research focuses on: 

  • Studying genetic influences of prostate cancer.
  • Investigating if immunotherapies are a safe and viable option for the treatment of prostate cancer.

Our recent research has found:

  • Seven new regions across the human genome that increase the chances of developing prostate cancer.
  • The 1% of men at highest risk are about five times more likely than the average man to have prostate cancer, which is nearly one in two chance of developing the disease.
