Phase I/II Clinical Trials & Bioequivalence Studies at Q-Pharm Pty Limited

Q-Pharm is a private company established as a joint venture between QIMR and The University of Queensland and located in purpose-built facilities within the QIMR precinct on the campus of the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital. Q-Pharm specialises in the conduct of Phase I/II clinical trials and bioequivalence studies. This facility enables the testing of potential new therapeutic products in humans to determine that they cause no harm prior to the conduct of larger scale Phase II/III trials which test for efficacy. For clinical trials requiring patient-based populations, Q-Pharm collaborates with clinicians from the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital and other metropolitan hospitals. Q-Pharm has completed 120 clinical trials in its four years of operation (2002/2006) for Australian and international clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology Industry.

Q-Pharm has a 12 bed unit on D floor of the Clive Berghofer Cancer Research Centre for Phase I/II trial activities. The company also has a dedicated outpatient facility and a 36 bed biostudies unit on Levels 3 and 6 of Block 9 on the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital Campus. Q-Pharm's facilities can be used flexibly for in-patient and out-patient studies. Q-Pharm also has a fully equipped, state-of-the art bioanalytical laboratory, believed to be the largest, best equipped, and most experienced drug analysis laboratory in Australia. Q-Pharm is accredited by NATA as a Medical Testing Laboratory, and operates in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 (1999), which satisfies most of the requirements of GLP. Q-Pharm also has a secured pharmacy, a special medical procedures room, doctor's consulting rooms, subject's lounge area, catering facilities and clinical data management areas.
