Lawrie Powell Medical Postgraduate Research Scholarship

The Queensland Institute of Medical Research is one of the largest medical research institutes in the southern hemisphere, with programs in areas such as cellular and molecular sciences, epidemiology and population health, human genetics, cancer biology, biotechnology, infectious diseases and vaccine development.

Applications are invited from recent medical graduates or those undergoing further clinical training to undertake a postgraduate degree involving full-time research. Applicants are expected to have made prior arrangements with the Head of the Institute Laboratory in which they propose to study.

Applications will be considered in all health-related disciplines of the Institute and assessed on: • Undergraduate record • Research experience including publications • Quality of proposed research • Suitability of the applicant for research training • Postgraduate clinical training, where appropriate

The Scholarship will be awarded initially for one year, but subject to satisfactory progress, may be renewed up to a maximum of three years if initial post-graduate degree enrolment is concurrent with commencement of the Scholarship. Applicants already in receipt of an Australian Postgraduate Award or equivalent full-time scholarship are not eligible to apply.

Stipend: The scholarship will be offered at the NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship (Medical/Dental) rate, currently $29,753 per annum (non-taxable).
