This site was designed under the following technical criteria:

1. to display correctly in a maximised browser window on a 1024x768 pixel display at 16-bit colour depth (65536 colours)
2. to use Cascading Style Sheets
3. to code to the HTML 4.0 Transitional standard
4. to render correctly in Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers at version 4 or higher
5. to implement the Australian Government Locator Standard for META data
6. to minimise coding practices which result in diminished access for visitors with disabilities

In addition, a number of aspects of HTML were identified as being undesirable and the QIMR website therefore was designed:

1. to avoid the use of cookies
2. to avoid the use of frames
3. to avoid gratuitous use of client-side executables
